Human Influence
If it were not for human activity the wolf population would not be in any trouble. Human activity has been the main cause for the wolf population to decline so much because of many reasons. Some example of threats from humans to the eastern wolf are because of hunting and trapping outside the parks, death because of road traffic, and recreational activities causing disturbances. Another big reason for the eastern wolf population to decline is to the industrial, agricultural and residential developments. These developments take away a place for wolves to live and also sometimes pollute the surrounding environments where the wolves may still be. Humans are transforming a perfectly good ecosystem to set up agriculture and urbanization for it to beneficial to the human population(6). Also because there once may have been a wolf pack inhabiting the area when a farm is set up the animals may be in danger. Farmers could retaliate against the wolves if they are killing livestock, hunting the wolves or putting poison where the wolves could find it(2). The reservation that protect wolves do not have much problems concerning humans with minimal amount of wolf attacks on animals or humans. The most concerns are the wolves that are not in a protected area that can become killed by humans or lose there home do to developments. Pollution is also a major factor in contaminating the water the wolves drink and also may even affect the animals that the eastern wolves eat. People are becoming more aware of the need for the wolves and why they are important, they are starting to learn to live with these animals and not to harm them(6).
