How to protect the eastern wolf from further population decline
What Canadian park's are doing to protect the eastern wolf |
There are many places that the eastern wolf is protected, some example of parks that protect this wolf are La Mauricie National Park's, and Algonquin provincial park. La Mauricie National Park has been focusing on researching, monitoring, and educating the community about the eastern wolf. From the research they have gathered they have taken a few steps to help the survival of the eastern wolf by developing a protective strategy to help the eastern wolf stay protected inside and outside of the park. To protect the eastern wolf the wanted to create an education program that would be able to teach about the importance of wolves to the forests ecosystems, this hopefully would change people's perspective of the wolf. Another step La Mauricie National Park's has taken is to monitor the eastern wolf to see how humans have affected their habitat and also uses the wolf population to indicate how the health of the park's ecosystem is. The last of the park's focus is to educate the community with exhibits, activities, publications and conferences, hoping that this will help ensure the surviving of the eastern wolf population(10).

Why protect the eastern wolf |
The eastern wolf feeds on moose and deer and by feeding on these large herbivores keeps the natural, balanced level. This also keeps the diversity and the vegetation at a good level. Without the eastern wolf there would be less diverse plant life because the herbivore population would grow which means more plants would need to be eaten to keep the herbivores alive. The overall effect of the eastern wolf maintaining the ecological integrity of the forests ecosystem. This is why the eastern wolf is beneficial and a great asset to Canada(10).
